The next Central Iowa Knitters meeting will be held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, December 1st, 2009. Note the time change! The program will be our annual Charity Tea. Bring an appetizer or dessert to share; a variety of teas will be provided. There will be numerous door prizes for attendees and an optional Secret Santa gift exchange (knitting-related gift valued less than $15). We will collect items you’ve made for charity – particularly items made for the House of Mercy in memory of Shirley using the yarn donated by the Sons of St Patrick. Looking forward to seeing you there!

You may notice a new look around this website. CIK has changed web service providers and the move necessitated a new look to the site!
Don’t forget to join us this Tuesday, November 3rd at 7pm at our regular meeting location in Valley Church. The program for the night will be finishing the Warm Up America quilt joining. Please bring a yarn needle and/or crochet hook to help join the knitted squares. If you took home squares to block, please remember to bring them back with you!
Learn To Knit: October 17, 2009 October 6, 2009

CIK is sponsoring a beginning knitting class from 10:30 am – 2:30pm on October 17, 2009 in the HyVee at the corners of Railroad and Grand Avenues. The program cost is $15. No experience is necessary. Class leaders Carmen and Brenda will lead participants through the construction of baby washcloths with patterns tailors to your experience level. Other CIK members will also be in attendance to work on their charity knitting and provide additional one-on-one assistance and encouragement. Participants should bring a gadget bag with a pair of US 7 straight needles, darning needle, scissors, and measuring tape. CIK will provide cotton yarn for those who wish to have their finished washcloths donated to charity. Participants will enjoy a free 2009-2010 membership to Central Iowa Knitters.
We cannot accept online class registration. The Learn To Knit flyer has a RSVP registration form on the backside.

The next CIK meeting will be held at 7pm on September 1, 2009 at Valley Church (4343 Fuller Road). It’s CIK’s 4th birthday and we’re going to celebrate! Don’t forget to bring your state fair entries (and ribbons they may have won!) and any other knitting you’ve been working on for show-and-tell. Hope to see you there!

The next CIK meeting will be held at 7:00pm on April 7, 2009 at Valley Church (4343 Fuller Road). We are back in our regular room on the west side of the building, in the room at the bottom of the exterior brick stairs. Carmen will help us review our 2009 knitting resolutions and, of course, there’s always time for some show-and-tell. Please join us!

The next CIK meeting will be at 7pm on March 3, 2009 at Valley Church (4343 Fuller Road, West Des Moines). Feature presentation will be colorworking by member Erin Mumm. We will also discuss a group charity project in memory of Shirley Hansen and, as always, have a show-and-tell session.
Note: Our meeting room is different for this month. We will meet in Room C3 instead of our regular room. Enter the church building through the main entrance and go downstairs. You’ll take a left at the bottom of the steps and go to the end of the hall. The room we are meeting in is at the end of the hall on the right. You’ll have to take a right at the end of the hall to get to the entrance.

The next CIK meeting will be held at 7:00pm on February 3, 2009 at Valley Church (4343 Fuller Road). We are going to review our Warm-Up America spirit! A square with a heart motif designed by Robin will be distributed to attendees (members have already received a copy in the February newsletter). There will also be a recap of the retreat, so show us what you have learned, as well as other goodies for show and tell.

CIK’s Winter Retreat will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009 from 9am to 3pm at the Willow Creek Country Club, 140 Army Post Road, West Des Moines. Lunch will be provided and is included in the registration fee($25 members/$35 non-members). A list of materials will be provided after registration. Knitting 101: The Basics
If you’ve always wanted to pick up a pair of knitting needles and learn to knit this is the class for you! Instructor:

Top Down Raglan Sweater (Intermediate)
In this course you will be guided through knitting a simple top-down raglan baby sweater from the CIK Charity Knitting guide. You will cover the basics of sweater construction. Instructor: Robin
Twine Knitting (Advanced)
Twine knitting, also called Stranded Knitting, is a Scandanavian method of knitting alternating between two strands of yarn, twisting the strands after each stitch. Participants will knit an adult-size mitten. Instructor: Cindy
Fireside Sit’n’Knit with Dr Jen (all levels)
Have you hit a brickwall with a knitting project and can’t figure out how to continue? Dr. Jen will be available to answer questions about how to read a pattern, cast-ons, cast-offs, seams, and everything in-between. This class is geared towards those knitters who need some time to work on UFOs (UnFinished Objects). Instructor: Jen

Join us TONIGHT for CIK’s first meeting of 2009! We will discuss our knitting-related New Year’s Resolutions and classes for the January 31 Winter Retreat will be announced. CIK meets at Valley Church (4343 Fuller Road, West Des Moines) and the meeting starts at 7pm.
